THE SPACE BETWEEN
Alcantara Stone & Granite has worked with the artist Tony O´Malley and the winner of the local contest, Iolanda Pearse, at “The Space Between” project, which opened in the heart of Dublin at the Medical Center VISTA, providing its exclusive material Alcantara Black® contributing with our experiences in varius estages of design and assamble of the same.
Iolanda Pearse's words
"I chose the Alcantara Black® stone because it tied in perfectly to the vision I had of the sculpture at the beginning of the project"
The words of Tony O´Malley
"Her vision required a specific kind of stone, black granite with white veins. After a thorough search of available stones from around the world, Alcantara Black® material from Spain was chosen as an exact match to her vision. The professional standard of Alcantara Stone & Granite was unsurpassed by any other supplier."

Alcantara Stone™ is proud to share below the words and feelings of this young local artist, Iolanda Pearse, as well as the professional sculptor Tony O’Malley.
Iolanda Pearse words
“I chose the Alcantara Black® stone because it tied in perfectly to the vision I had of the sculpture at the beginning of the project. I wanted something simple but yet something that had character and the Alcantara Black® stone is exactly that! What I love most about the stone is the white veins that are dispersed throughout it. The space between the stones is mainly an indication of a lifeline within the town/country, it suggests that the vista healthcare keeps us whole. Keeps us in full health which holds us together. It also echoes the building in that it has a left and right wing and the glass entrance, like that stone has a left and right side held together with glass... I used water because it is a sign of healing to tie in with the healthcare aspect of the building. I love the sound of running water, I find it very soothing”
Tony O´Malley words
“This public art project is unique in that its approach to providing the local people with ownership of the piece is achieved by sourcing the innate creativity of a member of the local community, in this case Iolanda Pearse. At seventeen she won a competition which was held in local schools, to design a sculpture for the new primary care health centre that is being opened next February. The standard of her competition entry was a clear winner because of her chosen theme of health, how she took the context into consideration, and her clarity of vision of what the sculpture should look like in detail. Vista Primary Care commissioned Tony O’Malley, professional sculptor, to manage the sourcing of materials and to construct the sculpture according to the vision of Iolanda Pearse. Her vision required a specific kind of stone, black granite with white veins. After a thorough search of available stones from around the world, Alcantara Black® material from Spain was chosen as an exact match to her vision. The professional standard of Alcantara Stone & Granite was unsurpassed by any other supplier. During construction local people in the town of Naas, Ireland, were talking about how one of their own, young Iolanda, had designed the sculpture for the new primary health care centre. There was a sense that it belonged to the people because the artistic vision had come from a local student, expressing her concern for a high standard of health care being made available to everyone. Iolanda is currently studying midwifery in Dublin.
Vista Primary Care is one of a series of planned primary care health centres that are being built throughout Ireland. Their aim is to make accessible the highest standard of medical care through advanced technologies and availability of highly qualified staff. The level of care administered will be equal to and in some cases better than traditional hospitals. Unlike hospitals there is no provision of beds in primary care centres. The aim of these developments is to keep people out of hospital by making quality health care available and accessible to all at an early stage.
Tony O’Malley is a professional sculptor who’s practice extends over a period of twenty years. He has worked in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, and America. He is based in Ireland where his practice mostly involves public art, with important works in Dublin City centre and other centres around Ireland. He is currently studying in a masters programme in arts and heritage management specializing in public participation in the arts at Waterford Institute of Technology.”

For this challenge, Alcantara Stone™ structure its manufacturing from start to finish, because through our own quarries and factories we can close the entire production cycle, leaving no productive element at random. This design is complemented by a large industrial and quality control, consisting of the latest technology for the extraction and processing of our materials and a great team with years of professional experience in the sector.
